Funeral service for Mrs. Annie LaVerne Kitchens Duke, age 91, of Alexander City, will be Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 5 3-5 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Duke passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Russell Medical Center. She was born on April 29, 1915, in Alexander City to Robert Curvin Kitchens and Ella Pemberton Kitchens. She married Charles Louis Duke March 10, 1939. They were both Charter Members of Trinity United Methodist Church and both served on the Administrative Board. She taught Sunday School for over 35 years. She held offices in the Church and also the United Methodist Women's Organization. She was a member of the choir and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She held offices in the Better Homes and Gardens Club, which has been in existence for over 50 years. She was the last Charter Member. Her hobbies were making Christmas Balls and reading.

She is survived by her son, Charles Michael (Mickey) Duke, Sr. and his wife Jane of Alexander City; grandsons, David Thompson Duke of Alexander City and Charles Michael (Mike) Duke, Jr. and his wife Anne of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law-Ruth Kitchens; four nieces; two nephews; other relatives and friends; and a childhood friend, Ruby Hurst.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis (Bud) Duke; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Kitchens; one sister, Ruby Allen; three brothers, Neal, Clifford, and Robert Kitchens; two sisters-in-law, Vera and Bessie Kitchens and one brother-in-law, Crayton Allen.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 726, Alexander City, AL 35011.
