Sylvia Long age 99 of Winner, SD passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center Long Term Care Facility.
Sylvia was born in Hartington, NE, September 6, 1908 to Bernt and Minnie (Olson) Pederson. At the age of three the family came to Tripp County settling in Pleasant Valley Township where Sylvia attended school through the 10th grade and later attended Business College in Mitchell, SD.
On November 2, 1931 Sylvia married Robert (Bob) Long. To this union 4 children were born: Robert (Bobby), Marvin (Swede), Beverly and Bonnie.
Sylvia and Bob farmed in Lone Tree Township until moving to Witten in 1947. Sylvia was always busy cooking, sewing, ect., for family and friends. She managed Longs Market in the early 1950s. After that she worked in the Telephone office and soon the switchboard was moved to her home. She worked at the West Side Caf, West Side Grocery Store and in the Hospital House Keeping Department.
After moving to Winner in 1984, Sylvia kept busy with her handy work, helping her friends and bowling. She loved to bowl! She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up and she was always interested in what they were doing.
In 2002 Sylvia moved to the Golden Prairie Manor and in February of 2004 to the Winner Nursing Home.
Sylvia leaves behind 2 daughters, Beverly (Vern) Nespor, Winner, SD, Bonnie (Ron) Horstman, Winner, SD; 2 daughters-in-law, Gayle Long and Carol Long; 22 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kidwiler; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Bob, sons, Bobby and Swede, 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; her parents, 3 brothers, Leonard, Ingval and Elmer Pederson, 4 sisters, Nellie, Bertha, Loretta and Mildred.
On November 15, 1908 Sylvia was Baptized and Confirmed on March 13, 1949 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Witten where she kept her membership.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday, January 4th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mason Funeral Home in Winner with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
