He was the loving husband of Barbara J. (Lehman) Evans. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 30, 2013.
Born May 2, 1928 in Luzerne, James was a son of the late Richard and Pearl (Fry) Evans. He graduated in 1947 from Central High School in Washington D.C. James, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, had 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following retirement, he worked for PADE Auto Auction and Keystone Weaving in York. James was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Dover. He was also a 32nd Degree Free Mason and a member of the Marine Corps League.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by three sons, Michael J. Evans of Dover, John E. Evans of Harrisburg and Thomas E. Evans of West York; a grandson, Daniel Evans and wife, Megan; three nephews; and two nieces.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend James' graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday in Greenmount Cemetery, 721 Carlisle Ave., York, where veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. John M. Woods.
