Robert C. Armstrong, age 68, of Aledo, IL died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at home.
Funeral services are 1 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Fippinger Funeral Home. Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. He was born February 16, 1944 in Monmouth, IL, a son of Robert "Keith" and Helen (Hays) Armstrong. He graduated from Winola High School. He married Janice Louck in 1963 and later married Donna Dunn Riggins on April 22, 1967 in Aledo.
Robert farmed his grandfather's farm in Edgington and was employed as a procurement manager at the Rock Island Arsenal retiring after 37 years.
He was a former member of the Mercer County Aero Club, Mercer County Historical Society and enjoyed coffee with fellow retirees at Village Inn in Moline. He enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia, antique tractor pulls in Illinois and Eastern Iowa, especially enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren's events.
He is survived by his wife: Donna; three daughters: Rose (Jeff) Fugate of Milan, IL, Barbara (Robert) Nicol of Blue Grass, IA and Judith (Dennis) Hart of Harmon, IL; one son: Robert Armstrong of Geneva, IL and his fiancée: Julie Kennedy of Rock Island, IL; his parents: Keith and Helen Armstrong of Viola, IL; two sisters: Pat McCaw of Silvis, IL and Vickie (Frank) Mann of upstate New York; one brother: Keith (Jennifer) Armstrong of Mooresville, North Carolina, 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son: William Todd Armstrong, one grandson: Charles Nicol and one son-in-law: Joe Williamson.
