James was living in Tulsa Co., OK when he entered the service and was a member of Battery D, 15th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, 7th Infantry Division.
He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy along the eastern shore of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea on December 2, 1950. His remains were never recovered.
He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
He is also memorialized on the National Korean War Veterans Memorial.

James was born in Arkansas, as were his parents and Mildred. However Doris was born in Oklahoma. In the 1940 Census they were all residents of Bixby, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.
