Betty Jane Margaret Pekoll

Betty Jane Margaret Pekoll, 81, a resident of Meadow View Manor Nursing Home, died there Wednesday morning, July 12, 2006.

Betty was born September 20, 1924 in the Town of Mosel to George and Anna (Koehler) Grunwald. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School, Class of 1943. After graduation she was employed for a time at Gmach’s Restaurant as a waitress where she met Valentine Pekoll.

After Valentine’s discharge from the U.S. Navy they were united in marriage in Crow Point, Indiana on June 29, 1946.

For many years the couple lived in the 800 block of Bell Avenue.

Betty was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She also was a member of the V.F.W. Post #9156 Auxiliary.
Betty enjoyed writing poetry and telling jokes, but will most be remembered for the beautiful hand knit items she made, especially the many lined sweater jackets.

In addition to her devoted husband, Valentine, Betty is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Geoffrey) Nauth of Mequon, WI; her son, Randall (Beverly) Pekoll of Plymouth, WI; five grandchildren, Laura (fiancé Nick Gamroth) Nauth of Boston, MA, Danny Nauth of Indianapolis, IN, Katie Nauth of Mequon, WI, James Pekoll of Sheboygan, and Andrew Pekoll of Madison, WI; his sister, Ange Kruschke of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, AngeKruschke of Milwaukee and other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis L. Pekoll, two brothers, George Grunwald, Orville “Whitey” Grunwald, and a sister, Doris Borkenhagen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 13th & Lincoln, Sheboygan. Rev. Gregory S. Whelton, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 11:00a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name for St.. John’s United Church of Christ.

Betty’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Meadow View Manor who have become like a second family to them. She will be dearly missed.
