She and her mother, Nancy Ambrose, who profoundly influenced her grandson in his faith and desire to pursue a religious vocation, were members of Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Waycross community of Daytona Beach, Florida and were women of deep Christian faith.
She remarried twice. First to Alex Evans, who moves the family to Lake Helen, Florida, where Evans works in a sawmill. After Evans' death in 1910, the family moves back to Daytona by 1912. Sometime between then and her death she married someone with the last name of Sams.
She remained in Daytona for many years. She dies in San Francisco where her son lives in 1950.
