Died in while serving in the military from injuries while in Vietnam in 1970. He was in a military hospital in Japan when death occurred.

Obituary: "Randy David Ray, 22, formerly of Moberly, now of Prairie Village, Kan., died at 7:40 A.M. Saturday at the 67th Evacuation Hospital in the Republic of Vietnam. He was injured November 22. Born Aug. 23, 1948, in Moberly, he was the son of James F. Ray, Ashfield, N.C., and Mrs Bettie Davis Reichle, Prairie Village, Kan. He attended St. Pius X School and was graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1966. Young Ray, who had been serving as a military policeman in the armed forces the past two and one-half years, was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Prairie Village.
Surviving are his parents; two brothers and one sister, Bruce and Dean and Merriam. all of the home; one aunt, Mrs. A. L. Twyman; one uncle, Earl Ray, and several cousins including, Mrs. Louis Hunt, Earl D. Maloney and Troy Miller, all of Moberly.
The body will be brought to the Million-Greer and Comstock Funeral Home in Moberly, with the date to be announced later. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. (Src: Moberly Monitor Index dated, December 8, 1970).
