As a 2nd Lt., he served with Gen. John J. Pershing in the Expedition into Mexico in search of Pancho Villa in 1916-1917. As a 1st. Lt., he served in France during our involvement in World War I, 1917-1918, as an aide to his father, Amos William Kimball, who had been given the temporary rank of General at the time. During World War II, Col Kimball served as Commanding Officer of Combat Command B (CCB), 8th Armored Division. On April 9, 1945 General Devine, Commanding General, 8th Armored Division relieved Col Kimball of command of CCB replacing him with Lt Col Burba, reassigning Col Kimball to Commanding Officer of Division Trains (S-4).
