Lula Mae Cooper, 79, of Laurel Ridge Road Piketon, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at her residence. She was born on November 11, 1924, in Elm Grove, Ohio, to the late Jesse and Garnet McGowan Smith.

She was united in marriage on December 31, 1943, to John C. "Chuck" Cooper, who preceded her in death on July 10, 1997. Surviving are two sons, Larry John (Deneice) Cooper of Westerville, Ohio, and Jerry Wayne (Wendy) Cooper of Akron, Ohio; two granddaughters, Amanda Renee Cooper and Jenna Claire Cooper; two sisters, Sharma Hoffer of Otway, Ohio, and Velma Coleman of Hillsboro, Ohio; five half brothers, Dwayne Smith of Rarden, Ohio, Charles Smith of Mount Orab, Ohio Paul Smith of Lynchburg, Ohio, Harry Smith of McDermott, Ohio, and Gary Smith; and three half sisters Joan Parr of Hillsboro, Joyce Newkirk of Peebles, and Shirley Syroney of Rarden.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robie and Notley Smith, a sister Jessie Pearl Smith; her stepmother Rosella Jenkins, and a half sister, Jesse George.

Funeral service will b 1 p.m. Wednesday at Botkin Funeral Home in Waverly with the Rev. Vernagaye Sullivane officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Hill Cemetary.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
