OBITUARY: YORK Mildred C. (O'Keefe) Bortner, 95, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at ManorCare York - South. She was the wife of the late Stanley Williams Bortner, Sr. A viewing will be held 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Interment will follow in New Freedom Cemetery. Mrs. Bortner was born March 6, 1919, in Shrewsbury Township, a daughter of the late Jacob M. and Odessa M. (Swam) O'Keefe. Mildred was a 1937 graduate of Glen Rock High School. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Railroad. She worked for the former Shrewsbury Sewing Factory in the late 1960s and was previously employed as the cafeteria manager at Susquehannock High School from 1954 to 1964. In 1937, Mildred worked for the former OK General Store in Glen Rock. She was an avid crocheter and loved flowers. Mildred will be most remembered for the love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. (Kelbaugh) Stoner and her husband, Richard, of Red Lion; stepson, Stan Bortner of Middletown; granddaughters, Diana Nathan and her husband, Raj, of Pleasanton, CA, Jennifer Hensley and her husband, Ray, of Rose Hill, KS; step-granddaughters, Lauralee Miller and her husband, Adam, of Middletown, Ginger Martin and her husband, Robert, of Mays Landing, NJ; sisters, Lyle Hake and Carol Shirey, both of Seven Valleys; seven great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her step-daughter-in-law, Gitta Bortner; brother, John J. O'Keefe; and sister, Earlene Seitz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mildred's name may be made to: Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402.
