ED PATTERSON DEAD

Popular Young Man Passed Away Sunday Evening

Sunday night the community heard the news it had been expecting for several days, but was hoping against hope would not come. Ed Patterson was dead. Death came to him at seven o'clock at his home, 1507 Franklin avenue.

Edward Lee Patterson was the youngest son of Mrs. Maria Patterson of this city. He was born April 15, 1886 and passed away on his twenty-third birthday.

A month ago he contracted a cold, which became so severe that he was compelled to go to bed. Typhoid fever soon developed and there followed complications of the most serious nature. He was operated on last week. He stood the ordeal with apparently no ill effect; but he gradually became weaker and weaker until the end.

Mr. Patterson received his education in the public schools of Lexington and eight years ago entered the employ of Gratz Brothers. He was an excellent worker and a popular young man, so that he soon became invaluable to his employers. Indeed his death causes them as much grief as if he had been a near relative. He was possessed of such excellent qualities that his circle of friends was exceedingly wide spread. Never has the city displayed a keener solicitude in watching the illness of one of its young men. The question, "How is 'Box" Patterson?" could be heard at any time on the street.

The bereaved mother, to whom he was a great comfort and support, and his brother, Hugh, have the sincerest sympathy of the community.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Christian church. Rev. R.B. Briney, assisted by Rev. R.T. Mansfield, conducted the services.
