John M. Pendel, of 1917 Madison St., Farrell, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 5, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. He was 74.
Mr. Pendel was born April 28, 1929, in Farrell, a son
of Grgo and Maria (Nakich) Pendel.
He was a 1949 graduate of Farrell High School.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Farrell for 37 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of St. Anthony Church in Sharon. Mr. Pendel was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 705, Farrell. A hunter, he loved to target shoot, and also enjoyed gardening and watching hockey, soccer and golf on television.
He was a Civil War buff and had an extensive book collection on the subject. A dog lover, he enjoyed caring for his daughter's two dogs, Ghost and Oscar.
His wife, the former Mitzi Kontic, whom he married June
10, 1962, survives at home.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gregory Pendel, Bansalem, Pa.; a daughter, Mary Ann Kleinfelder and her
husband Gary, Mercer; a brother, Paul Pendel and his
wife Rose, Farrell; two sisters, Mandy Dolosky, Masury; and
Catherine Klasic, Hermitage; and a granddaughter, Paige
Kleinfelder, Mercer.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marko Pendel,
Anthony Pendel and Joseph Pendel; and two sisters, Agnes Kvocak and Anna Kontic. Memorial contributions may
