She died at the age of 104 on Jan. 14. She was born on the farm of her parents, J. Henry and Elizabeth Stemmel Cramer, near Frederick on Nov. 23, 1848. Mrs. Clemson was considered the oldest living alumna of Hood College in Frederick.
She was attending the college, called the Frederick Female Seminary at that time, when Lee surrounded, at Appomattox.
Married in 1872, she went to live on the Clemson farm near the Carroll County line and has resided there ever since. A daughter, Miss Bess Clemson, lived on the farm with her. Survivors include two sons, J. Walter and Claude Clemson, of near Frederick.
