Margaret Elizabeth Liebe was born August 8th, 1926 at New Rockford, North Dakota to parents to parents, Charles & Belva (Shelton) Thorpe. She died Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 85.

She grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. As an adult she lived in several places following construction with her family including Garrison Dam, North Dakota, San Pablo, California and finally McNary Dam in 1949. From there she moved to Hurlburt Avenue and then to Lathrop Avenue where a home was built in the 50's. On April 29th, 1965 she married Walter George Liebe in Hermiston. They lived there until the last few years when they moved to Cody Avenue where she enjoyed many wonderful new neighbors. When she first moved to Hermiston she was a waitress at McCabe's Café. She worked as an Inventory Clerk at Umatilla Army Depot for 25 years. Never wanting to be idle she worked at several part time jobs after retiring from the depot including counting fish at McNary Dam. She was active in the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary for many, many years serving as the treasurer for 25 years. In 2000 she had more than 25,000 hours of service. She served as the Assistant Area Director in 1981 and Area Director in 1982 of the Oregon Association of Hospital Auxiliaries. She worked in the gift shop and generally was seen around the hospital volunteering. She also spent many hours helping at the Senior Center with the meal program. She visited family as much as she could. She loved traveling to the Oregon coast. She was able to make 2 trips to Europe with her children and travel to Hawaii and Alaska. Playing cards was a passion of hers which she did as much as possible.

To her family, friends, and community she was always willing and ready to step in and help. She spent much time watching grandchildren and attending as many of their activities as she could. All agree she was the best grandma anyone could have. She supported all extended family unconditionally.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Walter Liebe of Hermiston, OR; Children, daughter Patricia Duvall (Gene) of Kingston, WA, son Larry Liedtke (Jill) of Eugene, Or, and son Terry Liedtke of Pilot Rock, OR; 2 Step-sons, David (Jan) & John Liebe (Martha) of Hermiston, OR; Sisters, Betty Petersen of Minot, ND and Delores Martin (Dick) of Pensacola, FL; 19 Grandchildren; 20 Great-grandchildren.
