NORFOLK - Ida Sylvia Fine Pogolowitz, 91, of the 600 block of Pembroke Ave., died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 in a local hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Cecilia Goldman Fine. She was the widow of Maurice Pogolowitz. Sylvia was a 1937 graduate of Maury High School. She was a 60-year active member of B'nai Israel Congregation and a former member of its board, former president of its sisterhood and the Hadassah and a volunteer with Jewish Family Service and the Jewish Federation Campaign. Survivors include her sons, Joel S. Pogolowitz and his wife Ann of Fair Lawn, N.J., Elliot A. Pogolowitz and his wife Rosalyn of Norfolk, Jeffrey D. Pogolowitz and his wife Nancy of Portland, Ore., and Richard S. Pogolowitz and his wife Linda of Winnywood, Pa.; her sisters, Helen E. Lapping of Norfolk, Shirley Uttal of Blacksburg, Va., and Thelma Oser of Norfolk; her brother, Dr. Morris Fine of Amherst, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren, Barry, Riva, Rachael, Sarah, Jonathan, Kayla, Andrew, Ben and Zack. Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in B'nai Israel Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, handled arrangements.
