Eldest child of Johan KOPEJTKA and Rosaria SCHATAWA. He accompanied his family on the trek from Saint Louis, Missouri to La Platte in Sarpy County, Nebraska; crossing the Missouri River by ferry at Brownville, Nemaha Co., Nebraska. The family lived in La Platte for two years. After the first year he and his father along with his younger brothers travelled to the western part of Knox Co., Nebraska to cut prairie sod and build a house for the family that would travel there the following year. "Jack" never married, and was a carpenter by trade.
He is buried next to his half brother George Kopetka.

Jack's memorial stone has a birth year of 1861. His Baptismal Record states he was born 5 May, 1862; and Baptized 8 June, 1862, in Carlinville, Macoupin, Illinois.
