Obituary: RUTH E. KIRKLAND, 1900-1996. Ruth Elizabeth (Engeman) Kirkland, 95, Wathena, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born in Logan County, Okla., on Nov. 23, 1900, Mrs. Kirkland moved to Doniphan County, Kan., in 1904.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Auxiliary to the American Legion Post No. 161, both of Wathena.
On April 16, 1929, she married John Kirkland in Savannah, Mo. He died in 1979.
Mrs. Kirkland also was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Charles; her parents, Frederick and Ellie B. Engeman; five brothers, Charles, Clarence and Everett Engeman and two infants; and three sisters, Nora Weber, Opal Henry and Grace Reichle.
Surviving: five daughters, Dorothy Lester, Eugene, Ore., Helen Anno, St. Joseph, and Ruth Grable, Erma Jones and Donna Mason, all of Wathena; two sons, John W., Cosby, Mo., and Donald, Wathena; two brothers, Joseph Engeman, Albany, Ore., and Walter Engeman, Atchison, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Wathena. Burial: Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena. (Src: The St. Joseph News-Press, St. Joseph, Mo., October 25, 1996.)
