GERALD HOKANSON

Gerald Kent Hokanson, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away April 17, 2011. He was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Salt Lake City, and was a 60-year resident of Las Vegas. He was a sergeant for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 28 years. After retiring, he went on to work for Valley Hospital as chief of security for 10 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Vegas 32 for 37 years, Scottish Rite for 35 years, Eastern Star for 35 years Part 26 Southgate for four years, and Shriners for 33 years. He coached for Pop Warner, was a B-Sharps Square Dancer and was very active in the Christ Episcopal Church. Gerald is survived by his wife, of 64 years, Julene; son, Virgil; brother, Art; sister, Bernice; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence; father, Henry; brothers, Russel and Elgin; and daughter, Vickie. Viewing will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, April 25. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Scottish Rite Clinic #125 and Odyssey Hospice.
