HARRISBURG, ILL. —

Gregory W. Swierk, 50, of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, the result of the tornado that swept through Harrisburg.

He was born Jan. 6, 1962, in Chicago, the son of Gregory and Joan Welch Swierk.

He was an Army veteran.

Survivors are two sons, Matthew Swierk and Michael Swierk, both of Chicago; and his best friend, Joe Potts of Harrisburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Fred Wilson officiating and burial with military graveside rites conducted by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legion Posts, with the flag ceremony conducted by the Illinois National Guard, in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made at the Harrisburg American Legion, George Hart Post No. 167 or at the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home.
