He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Ogden, a son of Bertram A. and Lorna F. Wilbur Gardiner
He married Jane Barnhart on Feb. 26, 1944, in Bellingham, Wash. She died Nov. 18, 1981.
He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber College and the University of Washington. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1947.
He had been employed as a public accountant and also worked in various management positions at Utah General Depot and Hill Air Force Base. He retired in 1978.
He was a member of the Ogden East LDS Stake High Priest Quorum and the 30th Ward Sunday School Presidency and the Ogden East Stake Sunday School Presidency.
He was former treasurer of the Ogden Footprinters Association and former director and treasurer of the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Ogden Area Cerebral Palsy Association and former director of the Utah Society of Crippled Children and Adults.
He was instrumental in establishing the first school for handicapped children in Ogden City Schools. He was a former member of the board directors of the Federal Employees Credit Union.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Gordon B. (Tim) Gardiner, Bountiful; Donald J. Gardiner, Roy; Julie Kennedy, Hooper. 10 grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and one sister, Donald B. Gardiner, Denver; Robert G. Gardiner, South Ogden; Lawrence W. Gardiner, Kaysville; Vera (Bonnie) Thornton, Glendale, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the 30th Ward Chapel, 1475 Cahoon, with Bishop Arlo V. Ward officiating.
Friends may call at Larkin and Sons Mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment Ogden City Cemetery.
