Gerald L. Myers, 93, of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Heartland of Indian Lake.

He was born in Goshen Township, Auglaize County, on April 21, 1918, to the late John E. and Sarah F. Barns Myers.

On Oct. 3, 1939, he married the former Gladys V. Shroyer and she preceded him in death in April 2001. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Myers and James Everett Myers; and a daughter-in-law, Ilene Myers.

He is survived by five children, Georgia A. (Charles) Marker and Jimmy R. Myers, both of Lewistown, Barbara J. (Jack) Corwin of West Mansfield, Betty I. Brehm of Russells Point and Delores C. (Dave) Pace of Lancaster, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 20 great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Betty Dotson of Toledo and Freda Knight of West Jefferson; three brothers, Clyde Myers of Springfield, Myron (Myra) Myers of Jamestown, N.Y., and Glen (Nancy) Myers of Troy; a sister-in-law, Pat Myers Merry of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

A 1936 graduate of Stokes Local School, Gerald was a farmer and had the first corn test plots in the area. He was a past president of the Logan County Guernsey Association.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a skilled craftsman, building fishing rods, teaching seminars on how to build fishing rods and started the Midwest Rod Builders Association. He and Gladys began teaching fishing at the Lakeview Elementary School.

He also loved taking family home videos.

The Rev. Bryan Meadows conducts funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial is in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire.
