Obituary from the Madison, IN, Daily Courier, Friday Evening edition, Page 4, 17 October 1879:
"Death of C. Friedersdorff, Esq. One of Madison's most substantial merchants.Mr. Conrad Friedersdorff, Senior member of the substantial grocery firm of C. Friedersdorff & Sons, and one of the most successful and respected merchants of this city, died last evening at seven o'clock.

After an illness of several weeks, with an organic disease of the heart, Mr. Friedersdorff was a Christian of the Lutheran faith, a gentleman of sterling integrity and of find business and social qualities, which won for him quite a host of friends. He had been a resident here for 31 years, and was 58 years of age at the time of his death. He was a steady, industrious toiler, and worked his way up by close application to duty from comparative obscurity. He had been for some years the largest porkpacker and the leading buyer and shipper of produce in Madison. He was a member of Bucher Lodge No. 118, I.O.O.F., and will be buried with the honors of the Fraternity tomorrow afternoon.

He leaves a wife and ten children, including two grown sons, Albert and George. The latter have long been associated in business with their father, to whom they were much devoted, and under whose careful training they have acquired considerable proficiency as businessmen. They will succeed to the management of their father's interests and the general care of the family, who are left in comfortable circumstances, aside from the death of Mr. F., whose loss is of course irreparable. The death of such a worthy citizen is a public calamity, and the bereaved ones have the sympathy of the whole community."
