Talented artist when it suited her. Oil painting, china painting as well as her sewing accomplishments. Great granddaughter has full set of her hand-painted china with pink rosebuds. Granddaughter has additional china dishes as well as Hummel-like oil painting.
Keen sense of humor and enjoyed kidding around; flirtatious. Known to be a bit quirky and feisty. Very independent and strong willed. Enjoyed teasing others and being teased, being center of attention.
Volunteer Gray Lady at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio for many years.
Had numerous friends, particularly Lucille Gooderding, a life-long friend.
Methodist. Active with her church and Bible groups.
Brown eyes, pink complexion.
Wore a Rolex watch, garnet & diamond engagement ring, white pearls. Also wore pop-it beads for everyday wear until they went out of style and wore out. Enjoyed wearing knit and crocheted dresses and 2-piece outfits she made.
Diagnosed with Altzheimer's in summer of 1987 when she suddenly required supervised care. Up to that point, she had managed living on her own after Karl's death in the house they built at 451 Fair Ave in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Her daughter, Mary, helped her maintain her independence from a distance.
Lived to be over 100 years old. Karl had provided a strong financial background for her with sound investments/stocks ... their money lasted until just before her death.
Death: New Dawn Nursing Home where she had been a resident for 13 years.
