Ray Doyle Fayne, a former Nicholasville police chief and Mercer County jailer, died yesterday at his home on Cottage Street. He was 78. Mr. Fayne, who was named Nicholasville police chief in the 1950s, previously had been an officer on the force. He was a police officer in Los Angeles for a time, then returned to his native Kentucky and became a Harrodsburg police officer. He was appointed Mercer County jailer in 1974.
