Derald G. Brocksmith, 72, of Peoria Heights, passed away at 5:12 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Proctor Hospital Emergency Room in Peoria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2104 South 14th Street, in Pekin, with Bishop Bishop Rick Jeffs presiding. Interment will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

Derald was born in Quincy on November 16, 1939, a son of Otis E. and Vera M. (Hartwig) Brocksmith. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Gerald; brother, Roy; and grandson, Logan Brocksmith.

He married Paula L. Bunch on January 2, 1981 in Pittsfield. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Chris (Erika) Brocksmith of Quincy, Don (Jolene) Brocksmith of Pekin, Robyn (Tim) Lyons of Corpus Christi, TX, James (Virginia) Brocksmith of Franklin, WI and Cristina Campbell of Peoria Heights; surviving siblings include Darlene (Merwin (deceased) Marcks of Quincy; Catherine (Dewayne) Smart of Quincy; Vicki (Mike) Haistings of Mendon and Jack Brocksmith of Quincy.

Derald spent his professional career working as an independent insurance broker throughout the state of Illinois. After his retirement, he enjoyed working as a Commercial Parts Pro at Advance Auto Parts in Washington.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Quincy and Peoria. When his boys were growing up, he enjoyed serving as a Boy Scouts Troop Leader, through his church in Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made in Derald's memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue.
