Billy Joe Sanders, 69, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on February 22, 2012.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Aberdeen Church of Christ with minister Charles Tharp officiating.

Mr. Sanders was born November 11, 1942, in West Point, MS to the late A.C. and Johnnie Vaughn Sanders.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Smith Sanders of Prairie, MS; two daughters, Carrie Hunt (Dale) of Crossett, AR, and Linda Thompson (Bobby) of Prairie, MS; seven grandchildren, Adam Hunt, Bruce Hunt, Megan Thompson Payne (Trey), Amber Thompson Vail (Chris), Juan Thompson, Celia Thompson, Robert Thompson, Jr.; two brothers and one sister, Earl Sanders (Ann) of Prairie, MS, Ed Sanders of West Point, MS, and Bonnie Brumfield (Dale) of Springfield, MO; one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Dot Fairchild of Hamilton, MS, Charles Smith (Lois) of Bettendorf, IA, and G.B. Smith (Shirley) of Moline, IL.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, A. C. Sanders, Jr., a sister, Bertha Sanders Graham (Selma), a sister-in-law, Pat Sanders, and a brother-in-law, Tony Smith.

Mr. Sanders lived several years in Iowa as a meat cutter. He then moved back to MS and farmed for many years. He ended his working career as a truck driver for Ashley Transportation. He retired in January 2009. Mr. Sanders took seriously worshiping God, loving his family and work.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hands of Compassion, 840 West Center Street, Rochester, MN 55902. This is where Mr. Sanders received loving care this past year while at Mayo Clinic, receiving treatments.
