HUNTSVILLE, Tenn., Aug 1 --- M. L. McDonald, 61, died at his home in Huntsville, July 30. He had been in declining health for over a year, but his condition was not regarded as serious until some two or three months ago.

Mr. McDonald was born and reared in Scott county and resided in Huntsville all his life. In 1902 he was elected representative in the legislature for Scott, Campbell and Union counties and served two years. He was appointed postmaster at Huntsville and served six years.

He resigned that office to become county superintendent of public infrastructure. He was elected and reelected and served in that office eight consecutive years. During that time, due to his devotion to duty and his labor, the public schools made marked progress in Scott county. At the close of his term as superintendent of school the World war was just coming up. He applied of admission to the officers' training camp at Nashville and elsewhere, but his age prevented his acceptance.

However he rendered service during the war as a member and chairman of the local draft board for two years. At the close of the war he was honorably discharged from this service and appointed to a lucrative position in the United States veterans' bureau. This position he held a number of years until he resigned a few months ago on account of his failing health. He made good in all those positions. He was a member of Helenwood lodge of Masons, served as worshipful master and was active in Masonic work for a number of years.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha McDonald, and by eight children, Evart (sp. Everett) Ernest, Bessie Mae, Boyd, Willard, Miller and Melva Jr., all of Huntsville, and Mrs. Grace Dunlap of Washington, Washington by his mother Mrs. Pherbia McDonald, who is no nearing 83 years of age, and by two brothers, Frazier and WIlburt McDonald, and three sisters, Lola Davis and Elzena Foster of Dayton and Cora Channaberry of Washington.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by the Rev. George Cecil, and at the cemetery by the Masonic lodge. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery.
