Hermon "Skip" Allsop Jr. 1932-2012 WILLIAMSTOWN Mr. Hermon "Skip" Allsop Jr., 79 life-long resident of Williamstown, died Wednesday February 15, 2012 at Williamstown Commons. He was born in North Adams, on April 20, 1932, son of Hermon E. Allsop and Amy (Brady) Allsop. He attended Williamstown Public schools and graduated from Williamstown High School with the class of 1950. He continued his education at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass., graduating in 1952. Skip was then hired in June 1952 by General Electric Company in Pittsfield, as an electrical engineering technician. In December of 1952 he entered the US Army serving from 1952-1954 in the Korean War. He then served three years in the Army Reserves. He returned to General Electric Co. in 1955 and was employed as a technical specialist in the high voltage laboratory of the Power Transformer Department until his retirement in October, 1988. Skip was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown and a member of American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown. He performed volunteer work for the Boy Scouts as a Troop Committee Chairman and District Commissioner receiving the Arrow Head Award. He was also a long-time member of the Williamstown Grange #366. He was very active in the Williamstown community serving on the Conservation Commission 9 years from 1965-1974, serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 15 years from 1977-1992, as a Forest Warden for 20 years, retiring in 2003, serving as a Williamstown Firefighter and a member of Gale Hose Company since 1981 and as a member of the Board of Assessors since 1991. Survivors include his wife, the former Jean M. Jefferson, whom he married on May 26, 1972. Two daughters; Mrs. Sharon L. Parmenter of Bennington, Vt., and Miss Susan M. Allsop of Agawam, Mass. Two sons; Allen E. Allsop of Agawam and Robin C. Allsop of Southwick, Mass., step daughter; Jacqueline McNeil of Montville, N.J. One stepson; Michael McNeil of Gloucester, Va. Three grandchildren, Justin and Megan Parmenter and Ashton Allsop. Four step-grandchildren, Joseph and Tara Sharif and Connor and Shaelyn McNeil. A Greatgranddaughter; Anna Parmenter. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter; Kathleen Kovach who died July 10, 2010 FUNERAL NOTICE: A Funeral Service for Hermon "Skip" Allsop Jr. will be held Monday February 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Sherman Burbank memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial, with full Military Honors, will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery.
