Howard Preston Beard, 73, of Coffeen, IL, passed away on Wed., February 15, 2012 @ 6:00 p.m. at Coffeen, IL. There will be no services. Cremation rites were accorded.
Mr. Beard was born on April 4, 1938 at Mattoon, IL to the late Preston & Iva M. (Brown) Beard. He has lived a lifetime in the Coffeen area. He was a 1956 graduate of Hillsboro High School and worked at Eagle Pitcher until 1983. He then worked at Graham Correctional Center where he retired in 2002. He was a member of A.F.S.C.M.E. #2856, Irving Masonic Lodge #155, Coffeen Masonic Lodge, and Lion's International Coffeen Chapter. He also enjoyed hunting & fishing.
He married Rose M. Gates and later divorced. He then married Janet Howard in Fayette Co. in 1980. She survives in Coffeen. Survivors include his wife; sons, William Beard and Larry Beard both of Coffeen, IL, and John (wife Sandy)Beard of Litchfield, IL; step-children, Debby Drobnack of Springfield, IL, Karen (husband Jeff) Woods of Williamsville, IL, and Lee Brwon of Coffeen, IL; three grandchildren, Cassie Lee, Courtney Beard, & Haley Beard, all of Litchfield; five step-grandchildren, Whitney Drobnack of Williamsville, IL, Sarah Drobnack of Cape Girardeau, MO, Dylan Woods of Peoria, IL, Skylar Woods of Williamsville, IL, & Lillie Ann Brown of Jacksonville, IL; one great-grandchild, David Lee of Litchfield; and one brother, Ernest (wife Dorothy) Hull of Coffeen, IL. He was preceded by his parents and two sisters.
