Robert Deloye 1918-2012 LANESBOROUGH Robert Burr "Jack" Deloye, 93, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in Pittsfield on Sept. 21, 1918, to Jules and Mabel (Burr) Deloye. Jack attended Pittsfield area schools, graduating from Pittsfield high school in 1935, and received his BSCE from Norwich University in 1939. He received the rank of Second Lieutenant in the House Calvary in September 1939. Jack served his country in World War II in the Army AirCorp as a captain from 1940 to 1945 and as a staff bomber and gunnery officer in the 34th Bomb Group stationed at Westover Field. He later transferred to the West Coast where he trained combat crews in the B-24 and B-17 aircraft. Jack was self-employed as an architectural and civil engineer practicing the Eastern New York and Western New England area. Jack operated his business in the Pittsfield area until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed his retirement by participating in many organization and clubs in the area. Jack was a founder / member of the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Engineers; member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Architects, and a member of the Dalton, Mass., and Marathon, Fla., American Legion. Jack was also very active in local outdoor sports. He was a member of the Mt. Greylock Ski Club; a member and past president of the Winter Sports Committee in Pittsfield; Northern New York Speed Skating; U.S. National A.S.U.; the Norwich University Alumni Club of the Berkshires; Pittsfield Speed Skating Club; a member and past chair of the Elder Services Advisory Committee; member and past president of the Lanesboro Senior Club; member and past chair of the Lanesboro Council on Aging and the Mohawk Power and Sail Club in Albany, N.Y. Jack was an avid boater, which he sailed the New England Coast, the Eastern U.S. Coast, the Florida Coast and to the Bahamas. Jack was predeceased by his former wife, Brenda (Jandro) Deloye in 1999, and his second wife, Francis Windsor Deloye, in March 1989. He is survived by his son, Robert Deloye Jr. of Chicopee; his sister, Nancy Fitzroy of Niskayuna, N.Y.; his granddaughters Tracy Pero of Pittsfield and Deborah Deloye of Lexington, S.C., and his cherished great-grandchildren, Spencer, Sarah and Shaun Pero. Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Ruth Deloye; by his brother, Jules Deloye III, and by sisters, Mabel O'Donnell and Jean Ford.
