Wilhelmine was born to Gottfried (b. 1790, d. ?) and Charlotte Friedericke (Woldt) Brockhaus (b. 1798, d. 1836), in in Parpart, Pomerania, Prussia, known today as Paprotno, Gmina Karnice, Gryfice (Powiat gryficki), West Pomeranian (Zachodniopomorskie), Poland.

In 1846, she, her father, her step-mother Sophia (Ruhnke), her brother Carl Frederick Wilhelm "Fred" Brockhaus and her half-brother Johann Martin Hermann "John" Brockhaus boarded the Venzenz Priesnitz in Stettin, Prussia (Szczecin, West Pomeranian, Poland, today) and arrived in New York harbor on 19 August 1846. The family settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Wilhelmine and August Nohr married about 1847, likely in Milwaukee, Washington or Ozaukee Counties. They lived in Washington County, Wisconsin per the 1850 census. August purchased 40 acres of land in Washington County, Wisconsin on 30 October 1857. They sold the acreage and moved to Morrison, Brown County, Wisconsin about 1859, and established their family farm.

Note: The claim that Michael Nohr hired Wilhelmine Brockhaus to care for Michael's invalid wife, Christine, where she then met and married Michael and Christine's son, August. is unsubstantiated. Seeking proof for this claim.
