James Robert Sullivan, M.D. of Rancho Cucamonga died Wednesday, February 1st at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland. He was 75 years old.
James was born to Dr. Walter and Marie Sullivan on December 7, 1936. He was born in San Antonio Community Hospital where he worked as a physician and surgeon for 51 years.
James grew up in Ontario and graduated from Chaffey High School. He attended Loyola University in Los Angeles followed by Creighton Medical School in Nebraska. His father, brother and son are all Creighton graduates. He met his beloved wife Margi in Nebraska and they were married on September 3, 1960.
James and Margi raised their three children in Rancho Cucamonga and James worked in their family medical practice in Upland with his father and brother, John Sullivan, providing care for the community and welcoming generations of babies into the world.
He was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a Captain and physician in the Vietnam War.
James served as Chief of Staff at San Antonio Community Hospital, The Price Foundation & Dental Board. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Upland serving as Eucharistic Minister for over three decades. As a physician and Eucharistic Minister he brought healing and comfort to many.
James lived a vibrant, active and above all, joyous life. He was a lifetime member of The Claremont Club and a passionate tennis player. His other hobbies included daily walks with his beloved wife, snow skiing, repairing cars, and playing video games and water sliding with his four grandchildren. He was an avid reader and an accomplished pianist. His life is one to be emulated. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, doctor, and friend who will be terribly missed.
James is survived by his wife of 51 years Margi, his three children Jamie, Judy and Suse, his daughter-in-law Maura and his four grandchildren Nicolas, Isabella, Michael and Meghan.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Upland on Saturday, March 3rd at 10 a.m. immediately followed by a reception in St. Joseph's Church Hall. Interment will be private. Memorial Contributions may be sent to: The Presentation Sisters of St. Joseph Catholic Church or San Antonio Community Hospital. Stone Funeral Home, Upland in charge of arrangements.
