ABANDA, AL -- The funeral for Cleve Aikens, 73, of Abanda will be Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Abanda Methodist Church with Revs Mark McGee and Floyd Aikens officiating. Burial will be at Tatum Cemetery.
Mr. Aikens died Monday, February 6, 2012 at University Hospital in Birmingham.
Born September 12, 1938 in Chambers County, Mr. Aikens owned and operated Abanda Grocery for 28 years. He helped to establish the Abanda Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Abanda Methodist Church. Mr. Aikens served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Genette Tatum Aikens of Abanda; a daughter, Allison Aikens of Opelika; a son, Dr. Alan Aikens of Arlington, VA; five sisters, Lonida Brooks of Valley, Ruth Davis and Lorene Milner of LaFayette, Faye Blackmon of Abanda and Emma Blanks of Wadley; and three brothers, Frank Aikens of Valley, Billy Aikens of Cusseta and Rev. Floyd Aikens of Lanett.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
