Margaret Carolyn (Simonson) Nystrom, daughter of Henry and Ruby (Burleigh) Simonson, was born September 11, 1931 in Estelline, South Dakota. She attended school in Estelline, Minneapolis, Hayward, Wisconsin and graduated from Estelline High School in 1950. with her older brother George Simonson. She was united in marriage to Verner Nystrom on December 30, 1951 at the Congregational Church in Estelline. After their marriage they lived 5 1/2 miles east of town. In 1959 they bought the farm 1 mile east of Estelline and proceeded at farming and milking cows and raising chickens. They moved into Estelline in 1988. Verner died on March 21, 2003 and she continued to make Estelline her home. She entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in November of 2009 and moved to the Hendricks Community Nursing Home in February of 2011. Margaret died there on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the age of 80 years.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans, plastic canvas, baking and cooking for family and friends and participating in church activities as well as neighborhood gatherings. In later years she enjoyed her birthday club and the friends. Margaret was always there to help out her special friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are three sons and their wives, Gary and Cindy Nystrom of Battle Creek, IA, David and Marceen Nystrom and Jeff and Lorry Nystrom all of Estelline; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother George Simonson and his wife June of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Beverley Espeland and her husband Marvin of Rapid City, SD, Roberta Beem of Newark, OH; a sister-in-law Bette Christiansen of Bryant, SD and a host of other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Verner, her parents, one daughter Jeanette, two sisters, Gwendolyn and twin Marjory and one brother Stanley Simonson.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2012 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline. Visitation will be 2PM to 5PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
