Girl, 8, Dies Of Tetanus
Mellissa Heckman, 8 year old daughter of Irvin (Harry) Heckma, RFD 2, Hobart (Porter County), died Thursday afternoon in Porter Memorial Hospital from tetanus which developed after the girl fell Nov 8, a piece of rusty wire lodging in her leg, her doctor reported.
The decedent was born Aug. 14, 1944 in Gary. She was a third grade pupil at Portage Central School.
Surviving are the parents, Irvin and Mary Heckman; four sister, Grace Ileen, Mary Ann and Peggy Jean, and five brothers, Elden, Chester, Richard, Charles and Howard.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Olson Funeral home, East Gary. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond.
