Joseph John Kurutz was born on March 15, 1909, in Bitumen, Pennsylvania, the son of Michael John and Anna Dryna Kuruc.

He married Natalie Marino on February 12, 1947, at Sts. Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Joseph moved to North Braddock outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Company in nearby Rankin.

Joseph John Kurutz passed away on February 1, 1984, and is buried with his wife in Calvary Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
