Duchess. Auguste Marie Johanna von Baden-Baden, daughter of imperial army commander Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden, and his wife Sibylle of Saxe-Lauenburg, was born in Aschaffenburg. Her father died in 1707, at which time her mother became regent. Her mother arranged her marriage to Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans. Following a proxy ceremony, she was married to Louis, grandson of King Louis XIV of France, on July 13, 1724. The couple had two children. The first, Louis Philippe d'Orléans, was born in 1725. Just before the birth of her second child in 1726, her mother-in-law forced her to make the trip from Versailles to Paris, so that the child would be born at the Palais-Royal. Johanna died three days after the birth of her daughter, Louise Marie d'Orléans. She was buried at the Val-de-Grâce Convent in Paris. Her husband embarked on a long period of mourning.
