Nancy was bon Feb 4, 1842 in Cherokee County, Alabama, the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Green Hurley. There were a total of 11 children in the Hurley family. Nancy's father was a farmer with a considerable amount of land in that county.

She met and married David Glenn Watson in Cherokee County where the Watson family also owned and farmed land. David and Nancy were married by the 1960 census, so I am assuming that they were married shortly before that year. No marriage record has been found, probably due to the Cherokee County courthouse fires in 1882 and again in 1895.

Together they had four children: James Alexander Watson (1860-1921), Albert Lee Watson (1867-1939), Harriet Magnolia Watson Moody (1874-1918), and Joseph Walter Watson (1876-1947). All four children remained in the Delta County area, marrying and having their children there.

In 1885 David and Nancy Watson moved their family to Delta County, Texas, when my grandfather, Joseph Watson, was 9 years old. They lived in the Enloe area where they worked their cotton farm.

In 1894, Nancy's husband, David, had a heart attack while picking cotton and died. On May 6, 1896, Nancy married Dimmcia Robert Mannahan (1844-1937) in Delta County. Our family history says that D. R. was a minister, but records list his occupation as farmer, minister, and general laborer, more of a jack of all trades. He was from Kentucky and had several children from a previous marriage. Only one of those children, Robert L. Mannahan, followed him to Delta County. Nancy and her second husband lived in the Cooper area until Nancy died in 1919. D.R. moved to Howard County, Arkansas and remarried at the age of 76 to 55 year old to Permelia Amelia Cowling Stone.

*Note on spelling of the name Mannahan: This name is spelled with either one "n" or sometimes two in all records. After searching for the family history of D. R. 's third wife, I found many Manahans with just the one "n", including the spelling of the name Manahan on Permelia's headstone; however, D. R.'s son Robert has Mannahan with the double "n" engraved in his headstone.
