Barbara J. (Ace) Shaffer, 75, of Allentown, died January 31, 2012 in the inpatient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Naomi (Deszell) Ace. She attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. Before her retirement, she was employed in various vocations, spending most of her working years waitressing and cooking in several local establishments. Survivors: Daughter, Laurie DeTurk of Allentown; sister, Norberta Hindman of Carolina Shores, NC; brother, John Ace; daughter-in-law Veronica Shaffer of Glendon; granddaughter, Casey L. Permenter of Houston, TX. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph W. Shaffer III, sisters, June Reitz and Patricia Yob. Services: At her request, her remains were donated to MedCure for medical research, and no services will be held.
