Barbara Judd Adams, 88, formerly of Bradenton, Florida, passed away in Pocatello, Idaho, on February 3, 2012.
Barbara was born to Cleavelend C. and Fleda Berry Judd in Coshocton, Ohio, on March 12, 1925.
She grew up in Pennsylvania, and was a Red Cross certified life guard. She saved the lives of at least three people, including her mother and later one of her grandchildren.
She graduated from High School in Erie, Pennsylvania, and attended a year of college at Allegheny College in Meadville.
Barbara met the love of her life during his military flight training for WWII. Shelby Willard Adams and Barbara Judd were married March 17, 1945, in Victoria, Texas.
Barbara and Shelby raised their three children in Mississippi and Texas. Barbara's number one goal in life was to be a good mother. She taught her children manners, respect and etiquette, so they could be confident in any situation.
She never missed any important events in her children's lives – she attended every game and performance. She was active in PTA, bridge clubs, and her children's sports and activities. She served as president of the PTA and Booster Club, and she performed a starring role in a local theater production.
She was active in her local Methodist church, singing in the choir and serving as choir president.
Barbara later worked as Shelby's secretary when he was Manager and Executive Vice President for Talon Zipper company.
Barbara was an avid reader, good at Scrabble, enjoyed painting, and loved to watch sports. She had a real green thumb – she could grow anything. Barbara tended some African violets that had belonged to her mother, and kept them all her life.
She spoke French and loved to travel. She achieved her dream of going to France, Holland, and London. She also traveled to Mexico and Jamaica.
In later years, Barbara moved to Florida to live near her son, Scott.
Barbara always wanted to see the west. When she moved to Idaho, she said, "I've come back to the mountains." Barbara moved to Quail Ridge Assisted Living home in Pocatello in November. In a few short months there, she made fond friends among the residents and staff members.
Barbara is survived by her children: Sandy (Paul) Entrikin of Pocatello, Idaho; Scott (Margie) Adams, of Bradenton, Florida; and Rebecca Emery, of Westerville, Ohio. She was known as "Nana" to 10 grandchildren and then became "Super-Nana" to 22 great-grandchildren. She was planning to be called "Super-Duper Nana" by future great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Adams, and her only brother, Cleave Judd.
A memorial service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave in Pocatello on Monday, February 6, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.
