Denzel Stewart Curtis was born Dec. 29, 1906, in Payson, Utah, and passed away Jan. 6, 2007, in Mesa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ammon and Mary Jane Slade Curtis; brothers, Marion, Ralph, Lawrence and Armon; and a sister, Lyda Huseman.

He is survived by brothers Fred and Melvin and his sister, Thelma Carpenter.

When Denzel was an infant, the family returned to Arizona, and he grew up in the San Jose area. Denzel attended Gila Academy, the University of Wyoming, Utah State at Logan, college at Davis, Calif., University of California at Berkeley, Cornell University and Harbor College in California. He taught at many schools: Sage, Wyo.; Golden State Military Academy; Pennsylvania School of Horticulture; Brigham Young University and Logan, Utah.

Denzel spent several years in the military and worked many years for the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Customs, as a chemical analyst, sorting out illegal imports and testifying in court about them.

Denzel composed songs and had a beautiful tenor voice to sing them.
