MACNAUGHTON, Hazel Elizabeth
On the eve of the New Year, Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at the age of 91, Hazel Elizabeth MacNaughton passed away at the Devonshire Care Centre in Edmonton.

Born Hazel Brydges on May 26, 1920 in Deville, Alberta, Hazel played, worked and was educated in the North Cooking Lake area. In November of 1938 she married Albert George MacNaughton and together they established the family farm in Ardrossan where they raised and nurtured their children. Hazel was an avid and active community supporter contributing to the United Church, the schools and the many community undertakings. Through her unique ability to role model and using every opportunity to communicate her many, almost daily teachings she instilled the importance and value of hard work, honesty and integrity into each and every one of her children. Mother's intuition allowed her to gently guide and assist them throughout their lives, always emphasizing the need for individuality while stressing the importance of family.

After their children were established with their own lives, Hazel and Albert lived in Vegreville and Kelowna and when Albert passed in 1987, Hazel spent time again in each of these locations and settled in Sherwood Park where she lived until her failing health made it necessary for her to be placed into long term care in Edmonton in the summer of 2011. There she was reunited with a old school chum, Eileen McAllister and spent many a meal time chatting about their siblings, life at the lake and exchanging stories about their favorite teacher, Miss. Challenger.

Left to celebrate her life are her children: Danny (Doris), Doug (Angela), Linda (Morris), Karen Parlee (Gordon), Mary (John), and Miles (Shirley), grandchildren, great- grandchildren and 1 great, great-grandson, along with her remaining siblings, brother, Howard and sisters, Dorothy and Lillian, her many nieces and nephews, and so many dear friends. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Albert, daughter Audrey and sons Grant and Peter.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of the Devonshire Care Centre for their care and support.

A memorial gathering will take place in the spring, when the family places Hazel's head stone at the Fairmount Cemetery in Ardrossan. In lieu of flowers all donations may be made to the Ardrossan United Church (22 Main Street, Ardrossan, Alberta T8E 2A2) to assist with the maintenance of the beautiful surroundings at the Fairmount Cemetery, where Hazel will be forever remembered.
