There is some confusion about the identity of Mary's parents. The 1905 Overmyer History says she was the daughter of Charles Leland, an apparent error. Her parents are correctly identified in Nebraska, Marriage Records, 1855-1908, which show Mary Leland of Omaha born in Ohio, the daughter of George Leland and Elizabeth Hill. She married William H. Overmyer in Omaha, Nebraska, on 1 Oct. 1874.
Various records show Mary's maiden name as both Leland (Lealand) or Hill. Curiously, for some unknown reason, Mary's son George H. Overmyer, after his first marriage, changed his surname to Lealand and dropped the name Overmyer. Mary then seems to have changed her name to Hill (her mother's maiden name).
