Next to the British Waterloo Monument you will find the grave of Major Frederick Bader. Major Bader was the father of the famous WWII pilot Douglas Rader. Major Frederick Roberts Bader was in the Royal Engineers in the British Army in World War I. He was badly injured by shrapnel in 1917. As with many AWWI soldiers he would go on to die of those very same wounds many years later in 1922 in a hospital in Saint Omer. Ironically the same area where his son Douglas would bail out of his plane and be captured in 1941. Douglas was just twelve years old when his father died. britishlegion.be
