Gary James King of Miami died June 1, 2007, at his home. He was 65.

Mr. King was born Oct. 12, 1941, to Bert and Maudie (Martino) King in Ottawa County. He had lived in the area all of his life. He was a retired maintenance worker for the State of Oklahoma for more than 30 years. He was a reserve officer with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. He was the sexton of the Ottawa Indian Cemetery and was the owner of the Ottawa Indian Monuments. Mr. King was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He married Kim Broyles on Aug. 28, 1979, in Miami. She survives, of the home. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edwin L. King, and a host of siblings. Additional survivors include one son, Scott King of Miami; two daughters, Susan Spurgeon of Miami, and Tanya Baker and her husband Mike of Sarcoxie, Md.; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Kester and her husband Quinten of Seneca, Mo., and Stephanie Downs and her husband Todd of Erick, Mo.; two brothers, Larry King of Miami and Joe King of Miami; seven sisters, Claudine Epperson and Rosalee Kleidon, both of Miami, Ann Arias of Arizona, Nellie Phillips of Aurora, Colo., Margie Hawkins of Muleshoe, Texas, Lillian Trigg of Houston, Charlene Wood of Arma, Kan., 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami with the Rev. Bob Barker officiating. Pallbearers will be state Rep. Larry Glenn and members of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Interment will follow at Ottawa Indian Cemetery southeast of Miami.
