Entered into a partnership with I. F Stewart about 1898 and established the firm of Stewart & Burr, funeral directors in Bowersville. In 1917, he moved his family to Jamestown and established the business there. In 1937, Max Powers joined the firm and the name was changed to Stewart, Burr & Powers. He was a member of the Jamestown Cooperative Club and had been a member of the board of directors of that club.
He married June 8, 1897 to Elva Miller and they had 2 sons, Guy and Marion Burr.
