John Burnett, 74, Harrison, died Oct. 7, 2006, at the Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center, Clare.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison, with Elder Dale Beavers officiating. Mr. Burnett was born to John Wallace Burnett Sr. and the former Stella Salisbury June 15, 1932, in Greenwood Township. He and Iva Louise Hall were united in marriage July 14, 1951. He retired from the Clare County Road Commission after 36 years of service with the title of superintendent.
In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, being a member of both the Houghton Lake B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1982, where he was the current exalted ruler, and at the Harrison Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2235. He also enjoyed farming, being a past member of the Clare County Sheriff's Posse and working with his horses. He also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He had lived in the Harrison area his entire life.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Lillian Poulton; and his parents.
Surviving Mr. Burnett are his wife, Iva L. Burnett of Harrison; son Greg and his wife Kris Burnett of Riley, KS; four daughters, Brenda and her husband Howard Wilson of Harrison, Jan and her husband Rick Garver of Clare, Jackie and her husband Lee Stafford of Forest Grove, OR, and Pat and her husband Dick Miceli of North Branch; sister, Della Mae Nolph of Gladwin; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah, Shawn, John, Jackie, Terra, Michael, Kimberly, Samantha, Jeremy, Josh and Jamie; and nine great-grandchildren.
