Tuesday, May 18, 1954
Many relatives and friends from distant points attended funeral services for Herbert (Herb) Beck, 51, at the Sharp Funeral Home here at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Arthur S. Poeckes, pastor of St. Lawrence Church, officiated.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, with the Rev. Leo Lenz, conducting the graveside service. Pallbearers were: G.D. Pringle, Max H. Reed, Dr. A. F. Witts, Tom J. Finegan, Irwin Subbet, ande Albert Heuton.
Mr. Beck, owner and operator of Beck's barbershop here, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Friday evening. He had spent most of his life in Carroll.
Out-of-town relatives at the rites included..... Mrs. Beck's father, M. J. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Meyers, Mrs. Clara Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Wibur Morrison, Mrs. Fred Pallersal, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ninneman and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Baskerville, Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Lemmon, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Koepsel, Des moines; Mrs. Pearl Gates and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gates, Ida Grove; Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Magner, Storm Lake; Verland Campbell, LeMars; Mrs. Lucian Morley, Wall Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stevens, Truro.
Among out-of-town friends were Dr. and Mrs. M. E. Whiteside, Storm Lake; Mrs. Gordon DuBois and Mr. and Mrs. Rube Burlingame, Boone.
........His father, John Beck, and two brothers, Alfred and Glenn, preceded him in death.

........the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Elks Memorial Service will be given at the funeral home 7:30 Sunday evening.
Mr. Beck, son of John and Anna (Wintershied) Beck, was born Jan. 3, 1903, at Horton, Kan. In his boyhood, he came with his parents to Carroll, where his father opened a barbershop.
After attending St. Joseph's parochial school and Carroll High School, Mr. Beck entered barber college at Minneapolis, Minn. Returning to Carroll, he was associated with his father in the barber trade. After his father's death, Mr. Beck took over the shop. For nearly 33 years, he was located in the same building on North Adams Street. He had moved to his new location on West Fifth Stree early this year.
Mr. Beck was married to Edith E. Campbell at Rockwell City on October 10, 1927. The family home is at 1308 North Adams Street.
Besides his wife, Mr. Beck leaves two sons, Richard, coach at Albert City High School, and Raymond, at home, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia, and two grandchildren, Gregory and Susan, Albert City; his mother, Mrs. Henry Joens, and step-father, Henry Joens, Denison; and three sisters, Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Hines, Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Arthur (Grace) Schridelly, Beaver Dam, Wis., and Mrs. Delbert (Lila) Christy, Des Moines.
........Mr. Beck was a member of St. Lawrence Church, the Carroll Elk Lodge, and the Modern Woodmen of America.
