"McDonald Massacre", Becky had a notable beginning in life. She, along with her mother, sister, and three cousins were captured by the Kiowa Indians on August 8, 1865, near Harper, Gillespie County. She was about one year of age. Her father and an aunt were killed that day. In November, 1865, after a treaty was made with several Indian tribes, the Kiowas brought the captives to the Indian Agency in Council Grove, Kansas. Because of various curcumstances, however, Rebecca Jane and her family were not returned to their home until October, 1866.
On Feb. 28, 1879, James Monroe Herrin and Rebecca Jane married in Gillespie County.
